Renovations

I am going to overhaul my blog. I can't seem to add or remove the people I read (and don't read) on the side. Just about everyone is taking there blog private. Please tell me why? I am wondering if it is important to take it private, or if the reasons are more personal. So here is my call. If you would like me to continue to check on your blog, leave a comment. If I decide to go private, I will let you know so I can add you to my readers. Thanks.

April,

Not sure why people are going private either. I track who looks at my blog with that tracker on the side--just so I know. I suppose it could seem weird that a few people from weird foreign countries read my blog. But, my opinion is, maybe that's a good thing? I mean...to share the church, and educate about democracy (you know, that whole freedom of speech thing). I do know of one person who received a phone call from some weirdo who connected them to their blog. But, overall I've heard of nothing. There are ways to keep your blog and so forth a little more "private" without going "private". Anyway---those are my guesses. Personally...as of right now--I'm okay with it being public. The only way I"d go private is if I felt when job searching that I needed to (cause employers are doing weird internet searches now too), but there really is nothing on my blog that I'm too worried about.

Anyway...I'd love to read your blog. Mary P.

Here's my biggest reasons for going private with my blog: Alissa posted video from David Archuleta's Christmas concert on her blog and got all sorts of weirdos leaving her messages. Someone even copied her video and posted it (along with her blog address) on YouTube. My friend posted a pic of his son in his undies because they had just finished potty training, and the picture got a ridiculous number of hits in one day. I just don't want people I don't know looking at my little girl or taking my thoughts out of context. I would love to keep in touch with you, so keep reading mine, and keep me in your circle if you decide to go private!

One of my friends noticed that a man was following her blog pretty regularly and she didn't know him at all, so it scared her a bit. We have thought about going private, but I track who comes to my blog with Feedjit and Google Analytics and I haven't noticed anything scary - we are really careful though because we have a lot of pictures and information about our children online. I also read an article about some people stealing identities because of blogs they followed. I would love to still read yours, so if you go private, please send me an invite.

Thank You for your concern. Audrey and Jon are trying their own business. Ami is moving to AZ. Kelly and Chad are waiting for the baby to come, and then they will see where they want to go. Erwin is working close to home, but with the enconomy, who knows how long that will last. We always seem to figure something out. Thank you though. If any of them need a job I will have them give Gentry a call.

I definitely still want to read your blog....I too have considered going private, but it is a pain in the butt! Instead I think I might start using nicknames for my children...who knows?

First make sure you add us to your blog, Second, I love Tate, he is actually one of our best kids in the class. We struggle with five boys and three chatty girls so that alone make it hard, the class is the hardest I have ever taught, and I have been in primary most of my adult life. However, because I worry and pray about them so much, I truly love them more than any other class I have ever taught. Tate has always been extremely sweet with me, listens when we ask him to and participate. You have a great son and raising him well. Third, I see Dr. Christensen here in Saratoga because he is great and close, but Dr. Watabe is my back up for emergencies. He did my surgery when I was hemoraging in August and he is great but I hope not to see him this time around. Sorry for the long comment. Thanks for the questions though, I am going to check our blog for wierd things too.

I love checking your blog and I love the comments you leave on mine! So please, let's stay blog buddies!!

My blog is private for a few reasons... first off, I'm paranoid about my dad somehow getting access to it, and I put too much private info on there that I don't want to share with him. Second, I had to take an internet safety class during my El Ed program at BYU, and it completely freaked me out. Especially now that I have a kid, I don't want my pictures to just be up and available to anyone, because I've heard too many stories about weirdos out there taking them and making them into child pornography with your child's face. I've also had some friends who have had strange people leave strange comments on their blogs, and so they've decided to go private because it made them uncomfortable. Even if you decide not to go private, you can still remove your blog from search engines and things like that under your settings.

I haven't had anything too weird. I've had a couple adbots leaving comments. I've had friends that have gone private after really strange things happened but usually it was because of posts that get alot of hits from seach engines. One had posted something about David Archuleta and that brought it quite a bit of traffic and trouble.

My concern is that people may use the things I say against me. That bothers me. I'm constantly changing my mind and how I do things. Nothing is set and stone and many of the things I say I want to do never happen and some things I was doing I'm not doing anymore. I just don't want people to think the blog is 100% me/us. It's not. It's just a small fraction of our lives and who we are.

My blog does contain a lot of personal thoughts which makes me quite vulnerable. But I can always change that if I feel threatened.

Read me! I read you everyday so I hope you add me to your readers if you go private! I have similar fears to the others, mainly because of my kids being on my blog. Just a privacy thing when it comes to my kids. I want people to see them, but I don't want the freakies stalking them, etc.

You are so cute! I didn't recognize you from your picture at first, I remember you as a blond. How fun to hear from you and see your adorable family. I'm so happy for you. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas. I'd also like to ad that I'm not planning on going private with my blog, please leave comments:)

we have a couple trackers too, so I'm not worried. If anything weird happened I'd go private, but I hate it when someone goes private. I don't even bother to ask to let me see it anymore. (But if you go private, please invite me.) ;) haha!
